Summary/Abstract: This paper presents a critical exposition of Baumgarten’s foundation of aesthetics as a specific philosophical discipline, primarily with regard to its premises. In this context, the paper examines the meaning of the foundation of aesthetics as a discipline, as well as the adequacy of its interpretation according to Leibniz-Wolff system. The author argues and explains the thesis that the foundation of aesthetics is not essentially based upon the idea of completion of this system, but that it draws its meaning from emphasizing the analysis of aesthetic experience as such. The conditions for such analysis are primarily found in modern philosophy of XVII and XVIII centuries, and the author argues that the basic character of aesthetics as gnoseologia inferior is their consequence. Finally, the primary meaning of aesthetics as lower gnoseology is explained through the possibility to see sensible experience as clear, and therefore as true knowledge.
