Archaeological Research in the South-Eastern Area of Roman Napoca

Summary/Abstract: In 2007, the National History Museum of Transylvania carried out a preventive archaeological excavation in the South-Eastern part of the Roman Napoca, which has probably been a handicraft area. In what regards the historical epochs, four different periods are attested: Modern, Mediaeval, Roman and Prehistoric. The most interesting, because of its remains, is the Roman level, in which some archaeological complexes have been distinguished, and some fragmentary artifacts, as well. An imported, central-gaulish artifact, which is a Drag. 37 type decorated bowl, dates our Roman level in the period between 140-190 p. Chr. (Antoninus Pius – Marcus Aurelius). This bowl has been made at Lezoux, in the officina of MACRINVS, whose name has been stamped on the artefact. The osteological material (determined by our colleague Diana Bindea) bring some interesting aspects in what regards the human intervention on some animal bones. (Translated by Diana Bindea)
