Summary/Abstract: The policy of the British authorities towards the Polish Armed Forces in the West was based – on one hand on keeping them in suspense, and on the other hand on keeping their hopes alive for retaining the shape of the Republic of Poland within the borders from before the 1st September 1939 for as long as possible. The historical perspective shows that it was only a psychological game of the British government. They just wanted to calm down the Poles after the Potsdam decisions. The British authorities were determined not to induce tensions in the Polish Armed Forces, which might result in loosing control over them and could lead to an uncontrolled military conflict with the USSR.
