Summary/Abstract: Liturgical vestments of the period from the 19th to the mid-20th century constitute a considerable part of the heritage of Lithuanian church art. Many of them are exposed at the exhibition "Christianity in Lithuanian Art". The article explores trends in the style of liturgical vestments of the period under discussion and seeks to trace the links between their appearance and the domestic and global trends in textiles. It also presents some material on the activity of local silk manufactories of the mid-18th and mid-19th centuries. The church robes exposed at the exhibition are analysed by dominant groups. One of these would be represented by single-style vestments, i.e. robes sewn using fabrics of the 18th-century rococo style (remade from secular garments donated to the Church) or fabrics of neo-Byzantine, neo-Baroque and neo-Rococo ornamental designs. Another group consists of fully embroidered robes and those decorated with embroidered details. Examples dating to the late 19th and mid-20th century and reflecting modernizing tendencies are discussed separately; these vestments are ornamented with decorative details of industrial production. The conclusion is made that the Lithuanian liturgical vestments of the late modern period continued the conservative tradition. They had been little influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement, which was spreading from England in the second half of the 19th century. In terms of their stylistic features, the vestments were a blend of the manor heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the tastes thrust by the Slavic neighbours and the perception of beauty of folk craftswomen.
