Summary/Abstract: Due to the globalisation processes the balance of payment statistics increasingly gains in importance. On the other hand trade and capital flow liberalisation may negatively affect the data quality – some transaction may be recorded improperly or not recorded at all. All these discrepancies will be included in the balance of payments as the balancing item named Net Errors and Omissions (NEO). The aim of this paper is to present general sources of statisitcal discrepancies and their level in the Balance of Payments of Poland. The examination of time series data regarding stationarity and seasonality showed a slightly positive trend without any statistically significant seasonal patterns. The occurrence of the highest levels of NEO in the times of external schocks and increased short-term capital flows suggests the possible direction of further research.
