The Nordic countries approach towards the European Union’s energy challenges

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to show the approach of the Nordic countries to energy issues. Such issues became very significant after international community realized that the emission of hazardous greenhouse gases must be reduced. The first part of this study focuses on a description of the European Energy Strategy and its goals. The second part is dedicated to the history of Nordic energy cooperation and it describes factors that are specific for Nordic energy culture, thanks to which these countries have strongly developed its energy sector. The third part includes the current balance of primary energy supply for Nordic countries and it shows the goals of their energy policy for the future. The research methods of the study are based on the analysis and insights of Polish and foreign documents such as scientific publications, scientific articles, reports and information found on the official websites of international organizations. The conclusion of the study is to confirm the statement that Nordic countries present a leading approach to current energy issues and they are the model to follow for others.
