Summary/Abstract: The problem of proper management of natural resources of the rural areas becomes extremely difficult when combined with the competitiveness of these areas. The competitiveness of units and regions is usually associated with economic growth which classical approach is now replaced by different concepts promoting the natural environment. The presence of resources and values of the natural environment itself is still not considered a factor that guarantees improvement of its competitiveness and development, and what is more – the status of the resources, their quality and protection may limit development of a commune. The goal hereunder is presentation of the natural environment as an element of the rural areas competitiveness and assessment of environmental conditions which affect improvement or decrease of competitiveness of these areas.
