Summary/Abstract: In the article, the author focuses on the German-Polish dictionary compiled by Mrongovius, more specifically on its third edition from the years 1853/54, and makes an assumption that this work, which is both a translation dictionary and a general dictionary of Polish, is one of the most important dictionaries of the first half of the 19th century. Its significance consists in its size, and the rich and varied lexical material compiled, including dialectal expressions from north-eastern Poland registered and qualified by the author, Kashubianisms and lexis from the Warsaw region, as well as specialist vocabulary, expressive forms, and many proper names. The linguistic data used in the dictionary come from numerous texts of Polish Romantic writers, such as Mickiewicz and the philosopher Trentowski, both quoted for the first time, as well as from copiously cited newspaper texts.
