Summary/Abstract: The central idea of sustainable competitiveness is the quest for a model of development that would balance economic prosperity, social sustainability and environmental management. This paper analyzes the social aspect of sustainable competitiveness with the aim of determining the relative position of the Republic of Serbia in relation to selected most competitive and least competitive European countries (according to the value of Social sustainability–adjusted GCI). The basic assumption is that improving sustainable competitiveness of countries must not be done in a way that economic, social and environmental dimension of competitiveness are treated as conflicting categories. Based on the data of World Economic Forum, quantitative, qualitative and graphical analysis of the social dimension of sustainable competitiveness of Serbia in relation to the six most competitive and six least competitive countries in Europe (including Serbia) are presented. Using simple correlation and regression analysis the interdependence of the Global Competitiveness Index and the Social Sustainability Pillar of observed countries is examined.
