Summary/Abstract: The Vistula Lagoon is situated partly in Russia (Kaliningrad Oblast) and partly in Poland. In Poland the water region is divided between two voivodeships: Pomorze and Warmia and Mazury. The lagoon is surrounded by the areas of different origin, character and natural conditions. All the region has got high landscape and environmental values: many various protected areas have been established there, like nature reserves, landscape parks and Natura 2000 areas. However, nature managment of the Vistula Lagoon is problematic for its transboundary location. The aim of the paper is an identification of the main problems related to the economic use of nature resources and values of the Vistula Lagoon and adjacent areas (particularly in the Polish part of the water region). Following methods were used: analysis of published literature, documents and data. The main problems comprise the following: excessive tourist attendance – investment and tourist pressure at the Vistula Spit, insufficent use of navigational potential of the Vistula Lagoon, water pollution of the Vistula Lagoon and the project of digging the waterway between the Vistula Lagoon and the Gdansk Bay.
