Environmental education as an essential part of educating at universities

Summary/Abstract: Environmental education emerged in the international discourse at the moment of the ecological crisis accumulation. It is understood as a process of shaping the overall picture of the relationship between man, society and nature. It aims to change human behaviour towards the environment. According to international and Polish programme documents it should be present in the whole process of education and cover all social groups. The purpose of this paper is to characterize the place, role and prospects of environmental education at the university level, in particular in the fields of economics and management. The graduates of the mentioned fields should achieve the competence in society-economy-environment relation by the graduates of the mentioned fields, because they will be the managers, making up the management of institutions of various levels and employees of local government units, and to a large extent they will be responsible for the attitude of the organization to the environment.
