Polish Folk Art: Contexts

Summary/Abstract: Located on an intersection of two discourses about art and people, of great importance for the modern system of values, the question of the contexts of Polish folk art and, subsequently, the periodicals: “Polska Sztuka Ludowa” and then “Polska Sztuka Ludowa: Konteksty”, occupied a highly prominent and complicated place within the discourse of the Polish intelligentsia. This text analyses the creation of Polish folk art within the discussion in question, indicating the essential role performed by artistic praxis in this process. At the same time, it tries to show the part played by “Polska Sztuka Ludowa”, which approached the titular phenomenon both affirmatively and critically.
