Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the advantages and disadvantages of bankruptcy as an economy process. The effects for companies can be either negative or positive. The most common are the negative ones. Bankruptcy may create various costs and can be a threat to the perform of the companies. On the other hand it should be noted also positive aspects. Bankruptcy may lead to a better allocation of resources and the elimination of inefficient entities. Authors try to answer what bankruptcy in law, economic and social sense is. What is more, the article shows how to understand bankruptcy as a part of the whole market process. Competition, volatility and bankruptcy constitute the vital part of our economy, so bankruptcy is a natural phenomenon.
