Summary/Abstract: This article surveys recent publications from the intersection of scholarship and culture featuring research focused on bicycles. Those analyses show the complexity of the problem, representing a real mosaic of possible themes. The most interesting work discussed looks for connections between bicycle riding and theatrical productions. No less intriguing are efforts to find analogies to current and earlier images of cycling culture in the process of industrialization. A bicycle is also an object of mass culture, and bicyclists constitute a separate, particularly vulnerable fraction of society. The use of steroids represents the dark side of cycling.
