Summary/Abstract: In article refuted existing in the history of Ukrainian literature thesis on artistic helplessness novel “Duma of virgin forest” by O. Turyansky. Turyansky known as the author of the story “Below the pain”, a work dedicated to the events of World War I, written in the expressionist style. “Duma of virgin forest”, at first glance, is the antithesis of the famous story genre. It is an allegorical work, in which animals are collected in the forest for the trial of mankind. It is proposed to the allegorical method of interpretation of the text (allegoreza), which serves to highlight the genre originality of the work, show it experimental. Allegory defines a number of genre discourses story (fable, a parable, a Baroque theater, satire, Utopia), the nature of their connection and style. Due to the plot inversion (beasts as prosecutors person) formed a specific type of narration, which gives the image a vivid color. Fragmentation of construction provided a change of monologues, globalism and satirical pathos – the angle of view of each character. Journalistic (direct speech) and the pamphlet (unmasking pathos) are subordinated to the goal of globalization expressionist main problems of mankind. “Duma of virgin forest” – the genre with many genre discourses mixture allegorical genres combined in a single unit author's position. The most important quality of the creation – is the use of allegory as expressionist reception. Turyansky, emotional type of person, found his version of expressionism intuitively, shouting about the tragedy in the story “Below the pain”. “Duma of virgin forest” – work that helped the author to understand the components of the expressionist style, in particular, the role of allegory in expressionist worldview.
