Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the circumstances of the creation and the development of the theory of optimum currency area (OCA) and its economical criterias, which shall be implemented in such area. The main point of the paper is an attempt of the adaptation analysis of achievements in economics in subject of optimum currency area during realization of the plans concerning the creation of the monetary union in Europe, established in 1999. The results of this analysis suggests that the reason of the creation of the European monetary union was political will, not the economic circumstances.
