Summary/Abstract: In the Greek-Catholic Church of Transylvania worked five vicariates foranee (Fagaraş, Haţeg, Rodna, Silvanus and Maramureş). On August 24 1776, Empress Maria Theresa founded the vicariate for the Romanians in the region of Maramures („pro districtibus valahicus”). Bishops of Muncaci were sending to Sighet Ruthenian parishes, vicars and only occasionally Romanian priest-vicars because the Greek Catholic parishes from Maramureş were under Ruthenian domination. After incorporation in the Diocese of Gherla, the Bishop John Alexi named Michael Paul as vicar of Maramureş in the fall of 1860. The already mentioned time interval the Vicarage have been managed by: Mihail Pavel (1860-1872), Ioan Pop (1872-1879), Mihail Kökényesdy (1879-1887), Tit Bud (1887-1917) şi Ilariu Boroş (1920-1932).This study aims to analyze the Greek Catholic vicariate structure of Maramureş based on Gherla Schematisms between 1853 and 1930. The two cues are important in terms of chronological set incorporating the ecclesiastical institution composed of two Romanian dioceses. After 1853, the establishment of the Greek Catholic Diocese of Gherla, the Romanian Greek-Catholic parishes in the county of Maramureş were separated from Ruthenian Diocese of Muncaci, falling under the jurisdiction of the armenopoliane diocese.1930 is the date of birth of the Greek Catholic Diocese of Maramureş with the headquarters in Baia Mare, when the vicariate was incorporated into the new-diocese.
