Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the concept of lifelong education as a philosophical and pedagogical phenomenon. Implemented by historical and philosophical, ontological and synergistic analysis of the causes of the transition from ‘the finished’ to ‘lifelong’ education. We consider the objectives and principles of lifelong learning, its creative character. The role of lifelong learning as a process of development and self-development of the individual and substantiates its importance for the man in the process of transition to an information society.
