Summary/Abstract: The term ‘participation’ is regarded as a synonymous of children’s and young people’s right to express their views. Building upon this conception, numerous definitions of children’s participation have been put forward, that allowed for further elaboration of degrees or types of participation. This article reviews the existing projects on Roma children participation in the PEER consortium countries in order to identify the prevailing types of participation. Two examples of participatory group activities carried out in Romania are presented and experiences of both Roma children and group facilitators are explored. The analysis highlights the complexity of participatory activities with Roma children and the need to further develop a methodology aiming at stimulating participation among disadvantaged children.
