Summary/Abstract: This exploratory study is based on a relatively small sample (n=35) of Romanian prisoners held in Spain. Based on semi‑structure interviews, we identified four main categories of pains of the foreign prisoners: access to rights and benefits, discrimination, language limitations, and regulation misunderstandings. This paper aims at contributing to the literature dedicated to the pains of imprisonment while making some concrete suggestions as how these pains may be alleviated in the future. Some potential new lines of research are also mentioned.
