Summary/Abstract: This article presents the importance of virtues in ancient Rome’s society. It attempts to depict the role of literature and writers and their involvement Octavian August’s political plan. The writers were asked to promote family values and their works were an expression of the state policy at that time. This situation was related to the decay of morality in republican Rome. Authors such as Titus Livius, Marcus Cicero, Horace and others have created literary works to set an example of conduct in social and family life to the citizens. This text emphasizes the role of women and their virtues in creating a healthy community within families and society.
