Summary/Abstract: The European Union Single Market is governed by four fundamental freedoms: the free movement of goods, capital and people (including workers) along with the right of establishment and freedom to provide services. Entrepreneurs starting a business should meet the regulations of the country in which they operate. The aim of this paper is to present and compare procedures related to setting up a business (with special regard to micro-enterprises and self-employment) by EU citizens in chosen countries of the European Community. To present required documents, costs, waiting periods, tax burdens, social insurance and possibilities of completing all formalities through one administrative authority, via the Internet, others.
