Summary/Abstract: An important challenge of the EU cohesion policy is to take into account the dynamics of demographic change in the context of a factor conducive to the sustainable development of Europe. The analysis of the evolution of demographic processes is so important for effective local policy, whose priority is to support less developed regions, including rural areas. In the article it was examined, whether, in the Decade of Polish membership in the EU directions for change and the intensity of selected demographic processes are similar in rural and urban areas and provinces in Poland and that the observed changes in Poland correspond to the changes occurring in the EU?
