Summary/Abstract: The influence of vowel duration on the perception of different vowel qualities in Finnish and Estonian has been the topic of several of our recent studies; for the present paper, we reconsider some of our methodological choices, comparing various different solutions. In the area of test design, timed group tests are evaluated as an alternative to our original self-paced individual test setup and test reliability is explored through repeated tests on the same subject. In the area of test evaluation, reaction time is added as a second dependent variable and a more sophisticated statistical evaluation is applied. All these methodological variations confirm the trends already visible in the results of our earlier studies.
