Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author tries to show some of the well-known features of the Renaissance, such as alchemy, memory art and magic, together with some social aspects of the XVIth century life, as twofold aspects of one complex phenomenon. Between the ’old’ fantastic cultural pattern of early Renaissance and the Scientific Reformation, the age of Counter Renaissance is characterized not only by some major changes in the imagination, but also by a specific structure to the methodological level. The author calls this structure a ’manipulation theory’. She stresses that some of these ’manipulation theories’ gives a better picture of the analyzed phenomena than the Culianu’s censorship of the imaginary.
