Summary/Abstract: Scholarly journals are by definition facilitators of and vehicles for advances in academic research. Of late, however, a significant shift in their function is becoming evident as institutionally the stress is increasingly on ways in which articles in peer reviewed journals can be used as a means of assessing professors in view of promotion or tenure and higher education institutions in view of ranking.
