From Metaphor-Word to Metaphor-Function: Contribution to Methodology of Researching Metaphors in Poetic Text

Summary/Abstract: This thesis explains and elaborates the interpretational model of identification, comprehension and explication of metaphors in a poetic text, which on the one side enables syntactic insight into the text, and on the other fundamental semantic analysis, resulting with integral interpretation of a poem. The graduation of metaphorical statements at word, sentence, text, and language levels is a methodological instrument focused on compositional and structural description of a poetic text, while reading poetic metaphors as construction and function and dominant poetic attribute in a certain opus offers the opportunity of direct interpretational associating of individual poems with poetics of an author, a literary group, a style formation or an artistic epoch.
