Summary/Abstract: The Conservative Party (1880) became known, in what regards its organization, for its lack of articulation and for the power struggles led by its numerous factions. The relative lack of organization within the CP and its turbulent evolution were deemed to be caused by internal or external factors. If we employ the structural perspective set forth by Maurice Duverger, the CP seems to be a cadre party characterized by poor organisation, uninterested in engaging the “street” in the political game, particularly attentive to the recruitment of elites. Thus, the poor organisation of the Romanian conservatives was not specific to the nation as such but it was explained by their way of structuring. The party’s specificity was given by the political Manichaeism a fact that had a negative impact on the solidarity of the political organisation.
