Summary/Abstract: The original group of Russian old-believers appeared on the Ukrainian ethnographic map in the 17th-18th centuries, as a consequence of their protest against the church reform attempted by the Patriarch Nikon. The wedding customs of the Russians were paid much attention by the ethnologists, being characterized by a high degree of diversity. The main reasons that account for their diversity are the fact that the Russian population migrated to the South from various regions of Eurasia and also the varied degree of them adopting elements from the wedding ceremonial of the indigenous people. According to our observations, the wedding ceremony of the Russian old-believers from the Odessa region (the Lypovans) has its origins in the Southern parts of Russia.
