Summary/Abstract: The article describes the steps that led to the submission of a request to approve the launch of the diocesan phase of the process of beatification of Bishop Josef Hlouch. The article is divided into four parts: In the first part, the author reviews in detail the way in which the scientific literature has discussed the life of the ninth Bishop of České Budějovice. In the second part, the author points out the theological work of Bishop Hlouch, and particularly focuses on the yet-unpublished writings of Hlouch’s theological works. The third part is a brief description of Bishop Hlouch’s life; he died as a bloodless martyr and a witness of faith. The fourth part discusses the evidence of Bishop Hlouch’s memory among the people and clergy of the Diocese of České Budějovice.
