Summary/Abstract: Particular attention in the article is paid to speech development through Gogol’s works.His literary productions are distinguished by variety of linguistic resources. Some exercisesare devoted to poem Dead Souls and The Story of How Ivan Ivanovich Quarreled withIvan Nikiforovich. They are characterized by speech variety: Gogol uses gradation, namelysyntactical gradation, literature neologisms, humorous vocabulary, professionalisms, highand low words, popular speech, phraseology, antithesis and many other linguistic means.
