Students’ Intercultural Education at the Classical University

Summary/Abstract: The dynamic transformations in the contemporary world cause the migration and the changes inhuman locations. Recently these problems have become challenging for Ukraine. Despite the objectivedifficulties our state continues to fight for the development of democracy, and one of thecharacteristics of our society is the ability of the different ethnicities to coexist harmoniously. Thesystem of the intercultural education should prepare the citizens to the challenges of the recenttimes. Today the representatives of different ethnicities with different national cultures, folk traditions,morals, and national mentality are studying at higher schools of Ukraine. It explains the importanceof the issues related to overcoming some difficulties in the relationships that can ariseamong the participants of educational process.The paper examines the importance, position, and role of the intercultural education as a componentof the contemporary education system in the classical university. It interprets the conceptson the problematics of intercultural education. The author emphasizes the significance of formingthe students’ intercultural competencies. The contents and the usage of the effective forms andmethods of instruction play the great role in organizing the intercultural education. The author alsoconsiders the possibilities of realizing the intercultural education at Ivan Franko National Universityof Lviv, for instance.
