Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the evaluation of resilience and vulnerability in Ostrava and Karviná between 2000 and 2010 from the socio-cultural perspective. These cities embody typical representatives of post-industrial urban entities in the Czech Republic. The socio-cultural component of life is indispensable for the explanation of other processes in researched territories. Ostrava’s higher resilience can be accounted for by its more favorable position within settlement system of the whole region.
