Summary/Abstract: The active foundation of different public unions at the beginning of the 20th century in Galicia isa bright and a persuasive argument of the national, cultural-educational and public elation of theUkrainian nation. Among the Ukrainian public unions of class character ‘Zorya’, ‘Volya’,‘Buduchnist’, the working society ‘Syla’ took the particular place. Qualitative development of thesociety found its reflection in the formation of different sections (of joiners, metal workers, builders,tailors, shoemakers, women, worker theatre, chore, group of mandolin players, builders, sportcircle, chess players) and quantitative development found its reflection in the increasing of thenumber of the members, enrichment of the helpful funds.The society organized educational actions and lecture expositions; created so called ‘the firstUkrainian university for workers’; arranged art evenings, theatre performances, concerts; organizedactions for raising money for charity; gave medical help; was a negotiator in the job placementof unemployed; gave juridical consultations how to make a contract or control any arguments.Thanks to the activity of this organisation, Ukrainian societies of workers had a possibilityto protect their professional interests, to get education, to enrich their cultural life, to form nationaland public values.
