Summary/Abstract: In the second decade of XXI century there has been an increase in rivalry both between China and Japan as well as between China and the United States. This, in turn, has led in Japan to the buildup of National Self-defence Force and transformation of that force, with the support of the U.S., into the modern army equipped with the offensive weapons. Asserting the right to self-defence of its territory against the Chinese expansion could worsen Japan,s relations with China, which tries to regain the Senkaku Islands being the part of the Japan, s territory since 1895. On the other hand China aims not only at the consolidation of its position in East Asia but also at gaining the status of superpower. Therefore the Middle Kingdom develops its military potential at the unprecedented rate and scale. And that potential may be used, in the near future, in order to conquer the Senkaku and other islands on the East China Sea.
