Summary/Abstract: In the las t decade there has without any doubt been a dramatically increased awareness of politically motivated crimes like mass murder, mass rape, torture, ethnic cleansing, or other miseries inflicted on people on mass scale like famines and forced migration. We do not know whether this increased sensitivity in front of the television screen simply reflects the magnitude of barbarity in the 20th century or whether it only bears witness to the technological improvement of mass communication.
