Summary/Abstract: This text is not devoted to the analysis of the past. Its subject is the present. However, the past bears immediate relevance for the understanding of my topic: the present I want to explore maybe conventionally identified as the transition from a criminal regime to democracy. I will assume that the character of the criminal past rules out the very possibility o f a new beginning ex nihilo, where the act of the regime change would be perceived as a watershed between a ‘then and a ‘now”.
