Summary/Abstract: The current article studies, through a meticulous discourse analysis, the involvement of the United States and Russia in the Syrian conflict during the last 21 months of the conflagration. The first section of the paper describes the chronological framework of the study and the methodology which stands behind the research conducted in this article. The second section presents the main findings of the study. It is divided into three parts in order to explain the evolution of the United States’ and Russia’s involvement in the Syrian civil war during the last 21 months. Finally, the third section of the article draws the conclusion of the paper. As the discourses and actions of the American and Russian decision-makers showed, the Syrian conflict may become, under the right circumstances, the field for an unprecedented cooperation between the two powers in conflict resolution.
