Summary/Abstract: Simion Bărnuţiu (1804-1864), mostly known as a politician and thinker, leader of the Revolution of 1848-1949 from Transylvania, the one who requested the equality of Romanians with other nationalities, was also a philosopher, a lawyer and a renowned educator. He was considered one of the founding fathers of political, philosophical, legal and pedagogical thinking in Romanian culture. Simion Bărnuţiu stressed the importance of the Romanian education system in general and of legal education in particular. Through his clarity in speech, his convincing power, warmth and enthusiasm when teaching, the Transylvanian professor stirred up the interest for the subjects he taught, he stirred the admiration of his pupils or students and colleagues. Simion Bărnuţiu has fully contributed to the development of Romanian legal education and works such as: Dreptul public al românilor (The public law of Romanians), Iaşi, 1867, Dreptul natural privat (Private natural law), Iaşi, 1868, Dreptul natural public (Public natural law), Iaşi, 1870, and many others still kept under the form of manuscripts by the Library of the Romanian Academy or lithographed courses or parts of them (at the Central Library of the University from Iaşi) make up for a rich inheritance that he left to posterity. They have aroused the interest of researchers in the field of legal history and Romanian legal education and they are of course awaiting for new contributions.
