Petro Mohyla Ukrainian Scientific Exposition Community in Lviv: Historic and Educational Aspects of Activity (1908–-1939)

Summary/Abstract: The article explores the preconditions of establishing the Ukrainian public organization in Galicia - Petro Mohyla Ukrainian scientific exposition community in Lviv (1908-1939), and its main stages of activity. It lays the focus on the organizational structure of the Community, its interaction with other cultural and educational organizations of Galicia; analyses the main forms and methods of spreading and popularizing among the Ukrainians the scientific knowledge from various areas of natural science, history, philosophy, literature, art - conducting public lectures, organizing the thematic courses of lectures, forming the library funds, creating the reading rooms etc. The author singles out the role of the Community in establishing the Ukrainian Secret University in Lviv; em-phasizes in general its noticeable impact on the cultural and educational life of the Galician Ukrainians in the interwar period.
