Religious education at school – a bridge between the Youth and the Church?

Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the question, if religious education at school can be a bridge between youth and church, considering corresponding documents of the polish and German episcopate, concepts of religious education and the research in the field of profession of religious education teachers. The main focus of the article lies on the meaning of reason in processes of religious education at school and related to this, two directions of religious education in the sense of „teaching religion“ and „teaching about religion“. Conclusively the meaning of childhood as the basis of the bridge and the importance of early religious education are underlined.
