Summary/Abstract: S. I. Ozhegov’s Dictionary, since its first edition in 1949, has been appearing in successiveeditions from the Soviet times to recent post-Soviet reality. Since 1992 it is co-authored byN. Y. Shvedova. The article compares several entries related to social and political affairs, collectedfrom the principal editions of the Dictionary. The analyzed entries include the followinglexemes: democracy, capitalism, communism, socialism, party, trade union. The main goal of thearticle is to show the evolution of the respective entries and to characterize the crucial differencesbetween yarious editions.
