Summary/Abstract: Close relationships fulfil the need for afiliation and this way they contribute to a psychological well-being of the individual. Into the close relationships we count marriage or partnership, friendship and family relationships. Each of them has its own specifics, but at the same time they have something in common. In the article we discuss the most frequently featured characteristics of close relationships, as interdependency, trust, commitment, intimacy and principle of social exchange. Their role can change with the continuation of the close relationship.
