Summary/Abstract: Consumer rights and consumer welfare issues have become more important, especially in the current economic environment in which the ability to make an informed choice is a real advantage for consumers’ and their daily routine. In order to make their purchases with confidence both in their own countries and abroad, consumers need easy access to accurate information and professional advice. A key point in the development of this process is the competence of people involved in protecting consumer rights. Several studies conducted at the European level show that there is a great interest in the recruitment of qualified experts in the field of consumer protection; interest from large companies, national governments, small and medium businesses and consumer associations. To assess the need for education and training in the field of consumer protection in the Lower Danube region, we decided to investigate and gather information needed both at EU level and at a specific level regarding the countries bordering the Danube River. This information justifies the need to establish a new form of expert training in this area. As a result, the study highlights aspects of the requirements for training experts in the field of consumer protection for the Romanian areas bordering the Danube. The motivation for this study is related to the desire to improve the situation in the field of the protection of consumer rights in Romania.
