Summary/Abstract: A while ago, talking to a fairly young poet from a language and culture akin to our own, I was surprised by his genuine enthusiasm and his conviction that in discussions about contemporary Croatian poetry there is a sense of coherence and method, of belonging to poetics and generations, a standard for evaluating and reading the constantly emerging poetic voices. The consolation of chaos – I replied, reducing the temperature of the conversation and concealing my own insecurity, referring to what in the melancholy and history of growing up is suggested by the enigmatic Chilean poet Nicanor Parra: remembrance and oblivion, the labyrinth of language and history, play and everyday life.
