Summary/Abstract: In this article, I first supply the main macroeconomic data for the seven economies in the region and subsequently examine trade relationships and economic convergence with respect to Europe, before offering my own view on what a ‘balanced’ and ‘well-grounded’ economic policy strategy should look like if this region is to become a competitive one open and attractive to investors. Economic data are used to test for integration between this region and the EU and to highlight the implications for growth. It may not be clear that some signal of development is becoming more apparent from economic and institutional actors, at least as it shows in the available information. What I will be proposing is the adoption and reinforcement of a new economic policy associated with concrete political and institutional stability within the area.
