“My friends should in fact be glad to see that I have reached the place where I have long belonged”: On the Issues Concerning her Homeland in Edith Stein‘s Letters to Roman Ingarden.

Summary/Abstract: The focus of my study is the letters of Edith Stein, a German Jewish philosopher, to her friend, Polish philosopher Roman Ingarden. The article aims to investigate Edith Stein’s notion of homeland, conceived of not only in geographical but also social, cultural, mental and religious terms. All these are visible in her letters to Ingarden. In her view of the homeland, Stein gradually moves from locating it in her home town of Breslau, the country, among her relatives and friends, to the discovery that her real spiritual homeland is heaven, perceived as a state of unity with Christ.
