Word boundaries in Polish and English: glottalization and linking

Summary/Abstract: This article describes the processes of glottalization and linking at word boundaries. Polish is a language that maintains word integrity, frequently by means of vowel glottalization. On the contrary, English is characterized by numerous linking processes that blur word boundaries in the acoustic signal. The acoustic characteristics of glottalization and linking in the two languages are presented. The differences between Polish and English with regard to these features are explained in terms of representational parameters in the Onset Prominence Model.
