Summary/Abstract: In various files and collections of Covasna County Department of National Archives of Romania there are 14 patents of nobility. These documents cover the period between 1568 and 1792. From these, only 7 contain coats of arms. This study presents all the 14 patents of nobility, and especially the description of the seven illustrated coat-of- arms, namely: coat-of-arms of family Békésy of Marosvásárhely (Tg. Mureş), Kelemen of Alsócsernáton (Cernatul de Jos), Borbély-Forró of Angyalos (Angheluş), Wrisseuics–Berdóczy, Budai of Beresztelke (Breaza), Kaczkóy-Tompcsa, and the coat of arms of family Damó of Lisznyó (Lisnău). The patents of nobility without painted coat-of-arms are the following families: Szentmihályfalvy, Csiszér de Étfalva (Zoltan), Nagy de Barátosfalva (Brateş) and other 25 persons, Lázár de Dálnok (Dalnic), Bodoki de Illyefalva (Ilieni), Baczarábai de Vajdahunyad (Hunedoara), and Radó alias Bakcsi. These patents of nobility was conferred by John II, elected king of Hungary, the princes of Transylvania: Gabriel Báthori, Gabriel Bethlen, George Rákóczi I, Michael Apafi, and by emperors Leopold I, Charles VI, and Francis II.
