Editorial perspectives arising from the inquiry into censorship archives (1948-1958)

Summary/Abstract: The article formulates certain theoretical propositions concerning the editing of contemporary works in the light of new information sourced from the censorship archives. Categorised and described are censors’ measures carried out between 1948 and 1958. On the basis of the inquiry into censorship archives, the author discerns the following categories of censors’ interferences: retention, in-depth transformation, superficial transformation (external and internal). The author postulates restoring texts to what they were prior to the censor’s intervention, considering at the same time the difficulties and limitations imminent to such operations. The essay is concluded with a specimen of a novel-type edition, which the author tentatively calls ‘editio restituta’.
